FAQs

  • In the state of California consumers can seek out treatment without a physician’s referral. California allows 12 sessions or 45 calendar days (whichever comes first) for treatment provided by a physical therapist.

  • Move to Mend is a mobile physical therapy practice, providing care where it is most convenient and comfortable for you. Sessions can take place in your home, at local parks, or—when permitted—at gyms or fitness facilities of your choice. Services are currently available throughout San Jose in the Cambrian and Willow Glen neighborhoods, as well as in Campbell and Los Gatos. If you are located in a nearby community, please reach out; additional areas may be available depending on schedule availability.

Move to Mend also offers telehealth appointments for added flexibility. When used with the right person at the right time, telehealth can be extremely effective and efficient.

  • All appointments are 60 minutes and are dedicated entirely to one-on-one care with your physical therapist. This allows ample time for a thorough assessment, personalized treatment, and focused guidance without feeling rushed.

30 minute virtual visits are also available for follow-up appointments and check-ins when appropriate.

  • A physical therapy evaluation begins with completing intake forms prior to your visit. This information allows the therapist to review your history ahead of time and arrive prepared to tailor both the conversation and the physical examination to your specific needs.

During the evaluation, the therapist will gather a detailed history to fully understand your concerns, symptoms, and goals. This is your opportunity to share your story and express what matters most to you. Physical rehabilitation is multifactorial, and understanding how your condition is affecting your daily life is an essential part of creating an effective plan.

The conversation is followed by a comprehensive physical assessment, which may include functional movement testing, activity-specific tasks, range of motion measurements, strength testing, and other evaluations as appropriate.

Each evaluation is customized to your unique limitations, goals, and current stage of recovery, ensuring your plan of care is individualized, thorough, and clinically aligned with your needs.

  • Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy movement and provides access to the area being treated, similar to clothing you might choose for exercise or light activity. In most cases, athletic footwear is recommended. Please have your regular and/or athletic shoes available so we can discuss any needs or adjustments during your session.

  • There is no need to clean or organize before your appointment. We are human too, and we truly do not mind if your home is messy. We also love pets (as long as they love us) and are always comfortable working around children. This is your space, and we are happy to meet you in the environment where you feel most at ease.

For the initial evaluation, it is helpful to have a place where we can sit, talk, and focus on you. A portable treatment table is brought to each visit, so having a space slightly larger than a yoga mat allows enough room for setup. Additional space where you can move around and perform exercises is also helpful.

It is also helpful for us to see what exercise equipment you already have so we can incorporate it into your program or make recommendations for anything you may need.

  • Appointments with Move to Mend Physical Therapy are reserved exclusively for you. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment will be charged in full. If unexpected delays on the patient’s part prevent the session from starting on time, the appointment will still need to end at the originally scheduled time, and the full fee will apply. Thank you for respecting our time and schedule.

  • We accept cash, credit cards, FSA & HSA cards, and checks.

  • Move to Mend operates outside of the insurance system in order to provide care based entirely on clinical need rather than on insurance limitations or visit authorizations. This model allows for longer, fully one-on-one sessions, individualized treatment plans, and complete transparency in pricing without deductibles, co-pays, or unexpected bills.

As an out-of-network provider, Move to Mend requires payment at the time of service. Some patients choose to seek reimbursement from their insurance company, and Move to Mend can provide a superbill for that purpose. Coverage varies widely, and reimbursement is not guaranteed, so it is recommended that patients verify their out-of-network benefits directly with their insurance plan before beginning therapy.
