Dr. Heather Toma, Physical Therapist

ABOUT HEATHER TOMA, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT

Heather has dedicated her career to helping people move better, feel stronger, and return to the activities that matter most to them.

Heather Toma earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Southern California in 2014, where she received the Kathleen Bice Award for Clinical Excellence. She later completed a postdoctoral orthopedic residency, obtained Board Certification in Orthopaedics, and went on to complete an AAOMPT-accredited orthopedic manual therapy fellowship—advanced training achieved by only a small percentage of physical therapists.

Her clinical experience includes treating complex orthopedic conditions, supporting postoperative recovery, assisting athletes and dancers, and guiding people through all phases of life, including prenatal and postpartum stages.

Heather has also taught, mentored, and served as a faculty member for prestigious doctoral programs and postdoctoral residency and fellowship programs, passing on her knowledge and experience to the next generation of physical therapists.

Heather’s passion for movement began early. Growing up, she trained extensively in dance and later worked as a therapeutic yoga instructor. These experiences shaped her appreciation for creative, intuitive movement and continue to influence her approach today. She incorporates this perspective into individualized exercise solutions that help people reconnect with their bodies in meaningful and sustainable ways.

Her practice philosophy centers on providing the right care at the right time, with evidence-based care as a foundational priority. She blends movement-based treatment, targeted exercise, and skilled hands-on manual therapy throughout rehabilitation. She recognizes that fear and uncertainty are normal parts of the recovery process and strives to create a supportive environment where people feel safe, capable, and confident moving again.
